I did the photography for the Medical Device Manufacturers Association’s annual conference this summer in Georgetown. This group helps the smaller medical device businesses have a voice in the government, especially with the strict regulation and very lengthy approval process from the FDA. (OK yes I listened to the presentations as I was taking photos!). A lot of the people attending have invented or manufactured such important devices used in hospitals and in many peoples’ every day lives. Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway, gave an incredible presentation where he highlighted his latest prosthetic arm (designed specifically for vets who lost both arms) and the problems he has had getting it approved by the FDA. He also talked about his awesome non-profit organization, FIRST, and inspiring kids to push into science. Here are some of the photos from the event.
